November 2017 - Prince of Peace Teacher for the Shark Tank

POP - Thank You for Shark Tank Project ( 1)

A wonderful collaboration lead by Cathy Walsh, Prince of Peace Teacher for the Shark Tank Project finished up recently with the final day of actual business pitch presentations.  A very kind gesture and gift for all ‘Sharks’ from Prince of Peace showing their appreciation of our time and professionalism for this project.  As Sharks we have continued to receive positive feedback from this project.  2 projects have been identified by our Sharks as real potential.  These Sharks have offered to continue mentoring these students and take their business concept forward with them, should they choose.

The annual Thanksgiving Service for Prince of Peace was a wonderful evening of celebration with the opportunity to meet many community and staff members from the school, together with our scholarship recipient and her family, Stephanie Bleckwehl.

Following the Ferny Grove Awards Night, Mr Craig Cooper received this lovely note of Thanks from Business Excellence award recipient, Kate Marciano.  You see Kate pictured here with Craig receiving her award.  The Chamber is once again pleased to support these students and their achievements.  Thank You for the kind words Kate and we wish you continued success in your business studies.

Good Afternoon Mr Craig Cooper,

My name is Kate Marciano and I was privileged to be awarded the Hills and District Chamber of Commerce - Excellence in Business Studies major award last night at Ferny Grove State High School's Awards Night. I would like to thank you for presenting me with this prestigious award and it is with sincere gratitude that I accept the generous prize money that went with this award. I was very overwhelmed by the generosity of the Chamber and please be assured that I will use this wisely in my future studies in business.

Kind Regards,

Kate Marciano

15 November 2017 - Mitchelton SHS Annual Awards

MSHS - Kelly Cook Family Pic

The 15th November was the celebration of the 62nd Annual Awards night for Mitchelton State High School and what a wonderful evening it was, with the band setting the energy for the evening as we took our seats.  Acting Principal, Shelley Bampton welcomed us all for an evening with a strong sense of Humility and Teamwork.  For a school that has around some 450 students these students are achieving some great things.

After only chats over the phone, it was lovely to meet and present this year's scholarship recipient, Samantha Dooley with her award, together with the business achievement awards.

Equally as enjoyable was to meet Kelly Cook current Year 12 student, school captain and last years recipient of the Chamber scholarship.  I met Kelly’s parents and brother, pictured here with her.  Clearly very proud of Kelly’s achievements who has gone on to be awarded The School Dux.  Kelly shared with me of her plans to study exercise physiology, commencing in 2018.

November 2018 - Everton Park SHS Awards

EPSHS - Haylee Smith - 2017 Awards NightWonderful to catch up with Haylee Smith, this year’s scholarship recipient at the recent Awards evening at Everton Park State High School.  Such a grounded young lady, so clearly enjoying following her VET pathways, pursuing  hairdressing studies.  We wish Haylee continued success into 2018 with her final year of schooling.

30 October 2017 - Annual awards night at Everton Park State High School

Monday 30th October was the annual awards night at Everton Park State High School.  A wonderful evening of celebration and achievement for the students.

Special Thanks to Principal Sue Wallace and staff for hosting Kylie Carmody and Dean Weston.  As always we were welcomed with the warmth and community feeling that is evident at Everton Park.

Hayley Schafer…Not only has Hayley achieved and applied herself throughout her senior schooling and combined VET studies, as the current recipient of The Hills Scholarship Award, Hayley has also been awarded the VET Student of the Year Award.  Hayley has now been offered to commence full time work as a result of her hairdressing studies.  So, after a quick 1 week holiday when school finishes, Hayley will commence her full time hairdressing position.  We wish Hayley the very best as she embraces her new journey ahead.

Jacob Litte…A talented young man, polite and well spoken.  As a current year 10 student, Jacob has a bright future ahead of him.  Pictured here with Dean Weston who presented Jacob with the AJ Cook All-Rounder Award, supported by The Chamber.  We had the opportunity to chat with both Jacob and his family, who are clearly proud of Jacob’s achievements.

September 2017 - Job Experience exercise

EPSHSThis afternoon I picked up Hayley Schafer (current scholarship recipient) and  Haylee Smith from Everton Park State School who are both doing hairdressing studies via the schools program.  I had pre-arranged with Debbie from The Style Company at Blackwood Street to speak with the girls and show them around her salon....to enhance and compliment their learnings of seeing different salons and how they operate.

Debbie was very generous with her time and information with the girls.  I could see the girls were genuinely engaged and interested in the conversation.  Debbie has been in this industry for 23 years now!  Debbie shared with the girls about stocking of products, dealing with suppliers, product support, time management, customer service, cashflow, systems and more.

The girls and I had some great chats following this in the car on the return to school.  I have since phoned Debbie to thank her for her generosity.

Hayley Schafer, current scholarship recipient was also sharing with me that she has recently been offered full time work for 2018 at the salon where she is currently working.  She is accepting this offer.  I also note in the flyer from EPSHS at Big Breakfast that Hayley is the recent recipient of the Zonta Pine Rivers, Young Women in Public Affairs Award for 2017.  Clearly a young lady with a  bright future.

Hayley is also interested in taking her hairdressing skills to assist those suffering from cancer.  For my Health & Wellness pursuits of Kylies Courage, I collaborated with the owner of a salon who specialises in this field.  I have put Hayley in touch with Amanda.

Haylee Smith is currently putting together her application for a scholarship.
